Dr. Jake O’Shea, MD, MBA, FACEP
VP and Chief Health Information Officer | HCA Healthcare
Dr. Jake O’Shea is the Chief Health Information Officer for HCA Healthcare, where he leads clinical informatics activities for care teams across HCA Healthcare hospitals nationwide and serves as Executive Sponsor of the Expanse electronic health record program.
Dr. O’Shea began his administrative career with HCA Healthcare in 2013 as Chief Medical Information Officer for HCA Healthcare Capital Division in Richmond, Virginia, which includes 18 hospitals across Virginia, New Hampshire, Indiana. Subsequent to that, he served as Chief Medical Officer at first Johnston-Willis Hospital and then Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, where he and his team added programs that significantly reduced healthcare-associated infections and mortality, and helped launch Chippenham’s Level II trauma program. Most recently, Dr. O’Shea served as Division Chief Medical Officer for Capital Division; in that capacity he helped the Division’s hospitals navigate the COVID pandemic and led initiatives that decreased the volume of hospital-associated infections by more than 59%.
Dr. O’Shea is board-certified in emergency medicine and clinical informatics. He earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, his MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining HCA, Dr. O’Shea practiced emergency medicine in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia; he is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a Past President of the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians (VACEP). He recently completed service as Chair of the Virginia Emergency Department Care Coordination Advisory Council and his second term as a member of the Virginia Governor’s EMS Advisory Board.
