I worked as a clinical nurse specialist for over 10 years in a stroke rehabilitation unit in St Mary’s Hospital. I was co-founder of setting up a stroke rehabilitation unit there with Prof P. Kelly (Neurologist Mater Hospital) and Prof D. Power (Medicine for the Elderly Mater Hospital). It took us a year to get the unit up and running and it is still running successfully today over 10 years later.

I was on the clinical nurse specialist working group for the Stroke Strategy and have published a number of articles on nursing and rehabilitation in stroke care. I was involved in the National Audit of Stroke Services 2008. I was also a nurse representative on the National Neurorehabilitation Medicine Programme until my brain injury. I had given numerous talks at conferences here and have had a number of research poster presentations at stroke and rehabilitation conferences in Ireland.

Three years ago I had a sub arachnoid haemorrhage (aneurysm in my brain) which changed my life forever.

Since my brain injury I have given talks at stroke support groups, brain injury support groups, multi-disciplinary journal clubs, physiotherapy conferences and specialist groups. I am also talking at the Stroke Survivor Day and the Stroke Study Day April 2016 in Croke Park. I have also provided advice to other technology companies e.g. Scottish Entrepreneur Company called MindMate linked for advice. I have had articles published about my first app in Headway Ireland, Disability Ireland and Scottish Stroke Nurses Newsletter for outreached services. I was on the Breakfast Show of Newstalk July 2015 with Ivan Yates talking about Recovery after Brain Injury app.
