Eamonn Fitzgerald is Chief Executive of the Hermitage Medical Clinic, a hi-tech, independent hospital located in West Dublin serving a local, regional and national population across a broad spectrum of specialised medical and surgical care programmes. This Hospital is an affiliated teaching hospital of Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) and Trinity College Dublin. The Hospital enjoys relationships with a network of private and public hospitals in Ireland, Ireland’s top universities and educational centers, Enterprise Ireland and Sanford Healthcare USA. The Hermitage Clinic is a member of the Independent Hospitals Association of Ireland.
Eamonn has spent time in both the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic which are internationally renowned centres for innovation where he learned about best practices in the delivery of healthcare.
Since joining the Hermitage Medical Clinic, Eamonn oversaw the accreditation of the hospital by the Joint Commission International (JCI) in 2008. The hospital is fully committed to the development and maintenance of international best practice and standards in the governance and oversight of clinical care.
Its strategic vision revolves around an institutional commitment to interagency corporation and collaboration in the areas of clinical service delivery, education and research.
Eamonn has worked in Healthcare and Social Services for the past 25-years. Prior to moving in 2006 to start up the Hermitage Clinic, he held the position of Deputy Chief Executive of St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group for ten years. During his time at SVHG Eamonn contributed to collaborative efforts in the forging of relationships between the Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre (DMMC), University College Dublin (UCD) and participated in multiple grant applications ( PRTLI and others). He worked as an Allied Health Professional for seven years in Beaumont Hospital before joining St Vincent’s Healthcare Group.
In the past Eamonn has worked as a consultant to the International Unit of the Institute of Public Administration delivering consulting programmes in a variety of DGs (Directorates General /EU Administrations) in the European Commission as well as overseas work in South Africa.
He was chair of the State Claims Agency’s Clinical Indemnity Scheme, ICT Procurement and Implementation Steering Groups for the design, acquisition and roll‐out of the Stars‐Web Enterprise Liability, Clinical Claims and Risk Management Software Application(s).
He is a Board Member of the Dublin Clinical Centres for Research (DCCR) and an industry board member of Enterprise Ireland’s / UCD / Connected Health Steering Group. In addition to the forgoing, Eamonn sits on the Board of i360 Medical, a healthcare solutions and medical device innovation company that takes new healthcare ideas and medical technologies to market.
Eamonn has a Master’s Degree in Business Studies specialising in Management and Organisational Systems from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School, UCD and a Master of Science in Economics from Trinity College, Dublin. He is a graduate of University College Cork (UCC) in Social Studies and Social Work.
