Biography

From 2000 until my retirement from the Department of Defence in 2010 I was a senior lecturer at the School of Military Engineering in the Irish Defence Forces Training Centre, lecturing on Fire Safety both Operational and Prevention, Breathing Apparatus, and Road Crash Rescue. I also was required to carry out Fire Safety Inspections and Audits of buildings within the Defence Forces and advise on Building Regulations and fire safety compliance issues.

As the Technical Director and one of the Fire Safety Consultants with Phoenix STS Ltd. I specialise in Fire Safety and Emergency Management within healthcare. My role consists of advising on fire safety training programs, pre-fire planning, and evacuation strategies for healthcare premises. This involves me working with the public and private sector on a variety of sites ranging from stand-alone houses (community-based dwellings), Residential Care Homes, Primary Care Units and Acute and Non-Acute Hospitals.

I am a Professional Member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE), a Graduate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (G.I.Fire.E), a Graduate member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Grad IOSH) and Chairperson of the Fire Risk Management Section of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

I am also a Member of the National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers (NAHFO) and the Chairperson of the Ireland Branch, a Member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a Member of the Irish Institute of Training & Development (MIITD) and hold a level 8 qualification under National Framework of Qualifications in Occupational Safety and Health.
